How to Read Your Match Kundli Report, Step by Step
By Match Kundli Editorial Team · Updated · 5 min read
The Match Kundli result has two layers. First comes a result card with each person's Moon sign and birth star, the total out of 36, a score for each of the eight kootas and any dosha notes. Below it, a "View Detailed Report" button opens a written reading that explains every koota and the Manglik check in sentences, and that can be printed or saved as a PDF. The most useful order to read it in is not top to bottom: check the details first, then the doshas, then the koota grid, and the total last.
This guide follows the layout of the real screen, using Example 1 from our calculation engine, a fictional pair, as the running example.
Step 1: check the names and birth details
The top of the card shows the two people side by side, each with a sign symbol and a line such as "Pisces · Uttara Bhadrapada-1". That line is the Moon sign followed by the nakshatra and its pada, so it is the quickest way to confirm that the calculation used the right inputs.
If you have a janam patri for either person, compare it with this line. A different nakshatra almost always means a different birth time or time zone, and it is worth fixing before you read anything further. If you left the name boxes empty, the report uses "Boy" and "Girl".
Step 2: look for the dosha notes
Directly below the koota grid, a section appears only if something needs attention. It can contain up to three kinds of note:
- A red Nadi Dosha line, shown when both stars share a nadi.
- A red Bhakoot Dosha line, shown when the Moon signs are 2/12, 5/9 or 6/8 apart.
- A Manglik status line, shown when at least one person is Manglik.
Absence matters too. If this section is missing altogether, there is no Nadi Dosha, no Bhakoot Dosha and neither person is Manglik. The detailed report states the Manglik result explicitly either way.
In Example 1 the section holds a single line: "Boy is not Manglik, Girl is Manglik", followed by a note that only one partner being Manglik is given more weight traditionally. What the two doshas mean is covered in Nadi koota and Nadi Dosha and Bhakoot koota and Bhakoot Dosha.
Step 3: read the koota grid
The grid lists the eight kootas with the score on the left of the slash and the maximum on the right. For Example 1:
| Koota | Score | What a low score points to |
|---|---|---|
| Varna | 1/1 | Ego and deference; a small matter |
| Vashya | 1/2 | Mutual attraction and influence |
| Tara | 1.5/3 | Everyday well-being |
| Yoni | 2/4 | Physical and instinctive fit |
| Graha Maitri | 3/5 | Mental rapport |
| Gana | 6/6 | Basic temperament |
| Bhakoot | 7/7 | Prosperity and family harmony |
| Nadi | 8/8 | Health and children |
Read the grid by asking where points were lost, not how many. Losing four points in Yoni and Vashya is a very different report from losing four in Bhakoot. Each koota has its own guide, starting from the overview of the eight kootas.
Step 4: read the total and its label
Only now look at the large number. For Example 1 it is 29.5 / 36, with a label beneath it. The label comes from three bands:
| Total | Label on the card |
|---|---|
| 24 or more | Good match |
| 18 to 23.5 | Acceptable match |
| Below 18 | Not recommended |
"Not recommended" is a strong phrase for what tradition treats as a prompt for a closer look. Treat it as "read the breakdown carefully and consider a personal reading", not as a final answer. How common each band is, and why 18 is the usual minimum, is explained in how many gunas should match.
Step 5: open the detailed report
The "View Detailed Report" button opens a written reading with five parts:
- Opening. Restates each person's Moon sign, nakshatra and pada.
- Overall Verdict. Two short paragraphs matched to the score band: good, acceptable or below the comfortable range.
- Koota-by-Koota Analysis. One paragraph per koota, giving its traditional meaning and a sentence matched to your score, whether full marks, zero or in between.
- Mangal Dosha (Manglik) Analysis. States whether each person is Manglik and in which house Mars sits, and how tradition treats that combination.
- Closing Guidance. A reminder that the reading is cultural guidance and what to do when a specific concern appears.
The wording is fixed by rule for each score tier. No AI writes it, so two pairs with the same koota result get the same sentence for that koota, and the personal details come only from the names and the calculated positions.
Step 6: save or print it
Inside the report, "Download as PDF" opens your browser's print dialog. Choose "Save as PDF" as the destination. The page is arranged so that only the report prints, in plain dark text on white regardless of whether you use the light or dark theme. A saved copy is handy for sharing with a priest or astrologer, who can then work from the same numbers.
Step 7: decide what to do next
A short checklist for turning the report into a next step:
- Everything clear and the total comfortable: you have the usual traditional reassurance; the rest of the decision rests on the people involved.
- A dosha or a one-sided Manglik result: note the exact line and take it to an astrologer, together with both sets of birth details. What to do if your kundli does not match lists sensible steps.
- Doubt about the birth time: run the match again with the earliest and latest likely times and compare.
